Art History and Music-El Greco Movement 10 by Vangelis

The last song.  While not as strong as the previous tracks, it still makes a good end song for this epic tribute to the Baroque artist.  If you want to know the background story behind this soundtrack, click on this link.

Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata, 1585

Art History and Music-El Greco Movement 9 by Vangelis

A nice hypnotic song.  I feel so relaxed as I listen to this.  However, near the end of the song, it does go in a creepy direction.  This come from this faint mechanical whirring noise.  On the other hand, Vangelis does add a small uplifting crescendo at the end.  Maybe he thought the same thing too.

Saint Veronica Holding The Veil, 1580

Art History and Music: El Greco Movement 8 by Vangelis

A gorgeous and uplifting track.  Almost transcendental.  Also, I hear a Middle East flavor coming out of this song.

The Resurrection

Art History and Music-El Greco Movement 7 by Vangelis

A rather lackluster track.

Agony in the Garden

Art History and Music-El Greco Movement 6 by Vangelis

More guest vocalists for this movement.  Has a nice harsh and creepy quality to it.

The Burial of Count Orgaz

Art History and Music-El Greco Movement 5 by Vangelis

One of liveliest songs in the collections so far.  In this song, Vangelis created complex melodies.  Also, very playful and whimsical as well.

Angelic Concert, 1610

Art History and Music: El Greco Movement 4 by Vangelis

An okay song.  Guest vocalist Montserrat Caballe does a good job.  However, the song does pick up in quality near the end.

Saint Mary Magdalene

Art History and Music: El Greco Movement 3 by Vangelis

So far, I consider this my favorite.  It feels so lighthearted and whimsical.  At the same time, it feels very relaxing.  Of course, the mandolin used in this song helps.

Boy Blowing on an Ember to light a Candle aka Soplón 1570-1572

Art History and Music-El Greco: Movement 2 by Vangelis

Minimalist and grand, all thanks to a harpsichord.  Has a very Eastern flavor too.

Mount Sinai, 1570-1572

Art History and Music: Vangelis’s El Greco-Movement 1

I do not know why, but I hear this Egyptian tinge in this song.  By the way, I find this song both uplifting and haunting at the same time.  I will post more movements until the last one.
