Stamps featuring Abstract Expressionist art

This Christmas, I received stamps from a friend that featured work by the biggest heavyweights in Abstract Expressionist art.  A sweet gift for sure.  The list of artists consist of Hans Hoffmann, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Arshile Gorky, Barnett Newman, Adolph Gottlieb, Clyfford Still, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell, and Willem de Kooning.  What stood out to me came from the United States Postal Service choice of painting created by Kooning.  The painting itself?

If you read the history behind this painting, the United States Postal Service just put a painting of Ella Fitzgerald on fire on one of their stamps.

Last Wednesday, staff  and members of the Hickory Museum of Art went to various museums and galleries in Charlotte.  The Bechtler Museum of Art, the Mint Museum Uptown, and the Jerald Melberg gallery.
