Iconography: The Holy Face

A common image of Christ is the Holy Face – the miraculous image of his face on a cloth rectangle. In a modern context, the word is sometimes used to describe any Eastern Orthodox style icon of Jesus, for instance, the modern painted icon pictured here. In the context of the Shroud of Turin it is often used to distinguish to Image of Edessa/Shroud of Turin during the time that it was in Constantinople between A.D.
