Morton Feldman's Patterns in a Chromatic Field Part Five

In this section, Feldman creates a musical version of the ‘thunk’ sound with the piano.  An interesting complement to the harsh saw noises the cello makes.  However, he finally goes in a new direction in this series with some pizzicato plucking on the cello before kicking up the pace of the music.  Very dark and playful.  I love the popping noises that happen near the end of this section.

When it comes to making music, he shares a lot of commonalities with John Cage.  Especially with the long blocks of silence that plays between the musical notes.  It creates this sort of tension and makes you anticipate what will happen next in the song.
