I traveled to Izmir by myself this past Monday.  I left Istanbul with less than 300 TL in my wallet (which is less than 150 USD/100 GBP) and no other access to money.  I left with very little credit left on my phone and with only the address of my destination.  I left without a plan.

By 9 pm that night, I was in the company of two Turkish men, an Italian girl, a German girl, and an Australian bloke.
